Join Cub Scout Pack 335

Now that you have reviewed the information on our site, are you ready to sign your son up for Cub Scouts with Pack 335?  Great!  We are always ready to accept new scouts into our program.  The majority of our scouts join the pack during either the Fall (all ages) or Spring (primarily Tigers/1st Graders) recruit nights.  However, we can sign up new scouts at any time of the year.  If you are ready to join our pack, please use the "Contact Our Pack" link above and we will get you the necessary paperwork to complete.

Back-to-School Join Night

Each Spring(May) and Fall(September) we host a "Join Night" along with the other Cub Scout packs in the area. The District Executive from our council will visit the schools in the area and distibute fliers to boys who are eligible to join Cub Scouts.  These boys are encouraged to bring their parents to the the "Join Night" where they will be given an introduction to scouting.  Parents will have the opportunity to ask questions of the Cubmasters and find the Pack that best suits the needs of their family.  Stay tuned for more information on this year's "Join Night".

Tiger Mania (Spring Recruiting)

Did you know that boys can join Cub Scouts as Tigers as soon as they have graduated Kindergarten?  That's right!  There is no need to wait until the fall back-to-school sign up to join in the fun.  By joining Cub Scouts at the end of the school year, boys can participate in all of the pack's summer activities.  They can also attend Akela Days (Cub Scout day camp) and Cub Scout Summer Camp at Rhodes France Scout Reserve in Pana, Illinois.  Pack 335 will hold a Tiger Mania sign-up night in May, click the "Contact Our Pack" button above if you would like more information.

How Much Does Cub Scouting Cost?

We try to keep scouting as affordable as possible so that all boys may participate.  As a pack, we choose not to charge dues and instead ask that each scout participate in our annual popcorn sale.  We are then able to utilize the money from that fundraiser to cover many of our pack costs.  However, there are certain items and fees that we must charge.

  • Registration Fees ($24.00) - This fee is collected when you register as a scout for the first time and then in the fall of each subsequent year.  These monies are charged by the National BSA Office.  For new scouts, the fee is pro-rated based on the month a scout joins.
  • Insurance Fee  - This fee is included in the Registration Fees
  • Boys Life Magazine ($12.00) - This is the subscription fee for the official magazine of scouting.  The magazine is an OPTIONAL part of scouting.  The mission of Boys' Life magazine is to entertain and educate America's youth and to open their eyes to the joyous world of reading.  A special edition is published for Cub Scouts, with age- and program-specific content and feature articles.  Scouts who subscribe to Boys' Life stay in Scouting longer than non-subscribers—on average, two and a half times longer than non-subscribers.

  • Uniforms - There are two uniforms for Cub Scouts. The first is referred to as the "Class A" shirt. It is a navy blue button front shirt and is available in either short or long sleeves. The second is referred to as the "Class B" shirt. It is a T-shirt that is chosen by the pack, usually on an annual basis. There are also belts, neckerchiefs, neckerchief slides, and ball caps that may be worn as part of the official Cub Scout uniform.  Contact the Cubmaster for current price information.
  • Handbooks - The Cub Scout handbooks are designed for boys and their parents to use as they progress along the Cub Scout trail. Each of these books lists the full array of advancement activities appropriate for the age of the youth in each phase of the program. A new book is required for each age level of Cub Scouts (i.e. Tiger, Wolf, Bear, WEBELOS).  Prices are $13 for each book.  Contact the Cubmaster for current price information.
  • Other Costs - Some activities will have additional fees involved.  Summer camp fees are established and charged by the council office.  The pack or dens may attend special functions that require additional charges.  For example, if a den is working on a bowling or swimming belt loop, there may be an entry fee required.  These costs are usually less than $5.

We NEVER want costs to prevent a boy from participating in scouting.  Please contact the Cubmaster if you need financial assistance.

How Can You Help?

Scouting operates through volunteer leadership. Volunteer leaders are an example of Scouting principle of service to others. Naturally, parents are the primary source of leaders in the Scouting program. You volunteer not only to serve Scouting, but also to serve your son and his friends, and to have the chance to be a positive influence on the youth in your community.

What does it take to be a volunteer? A long, rich background of Scouting involvement is NOT required! What is needed is a desire to work with and help young people, a willingness to make time in your weekly schedule, and the rest is easy! Lots of resources and training are available and others will support your efforts.
